I’ve had some edits sent to me by a customer Andy Stamp who came on one of my 1-2-1 tuition sessions. Andy had come back to photography after an absence and wanted some help with lighting and a refresh, we spent the day concentrating on the studio work.
Our model for the day was Abigail Toyne who was the consummate professional as always. Andy and I started with a one light simple setup and progressed from there. I always stress how important it is to understand what the one light is doing before adding a second or third. I guess about 85% of my studio work is done with just the one light, and I’ll use modifiers and adapters to shape the light how I want it. The shots below are all using a simple setup consisting of a single Arri 300w head fitted with a Fresnel lens. The position of the light and photographer’s shooting position relative to the light and model had changed between some shots to review the effect this has on the final image. The two noticeable differences will be the two shots that are back-lit and the others that are predominantly side lit.
